    Beloved Slievenamon
    The Anner ripples on as when
    That day down by its side
    You woo'd our gentle Aileen there
    A happy homestead's pride
    And won her guileless heart _
    Consenting we smiled on
    "Alas for softer memories"
    Replied old Slievenamon
    "I rear my towering summit still
    Unto the heaven's blue
    Yes, still I hold my head erect
    As when I smiled on you
    But if I could forget my pride
    Telling where Aileen's gone
    With grief my head would stoop instead"

    "Our Aileen was a bonny a lass
    As ever cull'd a flower
    Beside the Anner's limpid stream
    At evening's closing hour
