- When there was any wedding in Ireland long ago it was generally a made match for match maker's used go around the country making matches. All the neighbours used to be at the weddings with the friends and relations of those getting married. They used to drive to the chapel in horses' cars and go home to breakfast and dance all day and night. The married couple used to go for a drive to some town but would come back during the night. When the married couple were coming home they were met by a crowd of people with bottles with the ends out of them. They would blow into these bottles and make terrible noise. It was an old custom of welcoming them home.
