- Long ago the tailors had no inch tape to measure their customers for a suit. What they used instead was a selvedge off a rot of wallpaper. When they took the measure they cut a notch in the paper and they easily remembered then what each notch meant. The tailors used come to the farmers' houses and remain for a week or longer and make clothes for the family and repair clothes as well. A door would be taken down and put on the flag stellan and used as a table for the tailor to sew on.
