    Rateen was a material made in Carrick and used in the making of riding breeches. It was a famous material in its day. Fanning the tailor used make those coduroy breeches and also used make the bainín for the men. They are worn by a few men around the place still
    Toys.
    Long ago all homemade dolls were used and also every kind of home tade toys. Dolls were made from the "cacki eyes" red flowers which grow in the ditches. They used turn down the red leaves and for the dress pieces of grass were used. Dolls used be made from rags also and stuff them with yellow meal and sawdust, and their faces painted with coloured chalks. Then they would get cow's hair and stick it on with wax on the head of the doll. They used potatoes also to make dolls. When the daisies are in bloom a necklace is made form them and long ago a lovely necklace
