- In Lisvernane, Aherlow there is a deep hole covered by a wooden platform. This hole is sixty feet deep and many people dread going near it because it is half full of water. The water that is in it is a black as ink. About twenty feet down in it are two iron rails which are crossing it from bank to bank. One night a man named James Conroy dreamt if he went down in this hole he would come find gold. In the dream he was told a poor man would come to his house the following night and that he was to bring the poor man with him to where the gold was but instead of bringing the old man he brought his son with him. When they arrived at the well they tied a rope to a stick which was standing upright in the ground. Jim Conroy went down to the rails and to their surprise there were two buckets of gold on chains off the rails. Jim Conroy was about to lift the gold, when he saw a crowd of men coming towards him and he went up as quickly as he could.
It was because he did not bring the poor man.- Collector
