- Long ago tales were told of wells. In Cluen, on the side of the road there is a well. One day a woman was passing with it with a pound of butter in her hand. The butter began to melt with the heat and she dipped it into the mes[?] well to keep it from melting. That evening when she was coming back again the well was at the other side of the road.

- An old story is told about St Bernard's well which is in Ballyvarane. One day a woman went to get a bucket of water. As she could get no water near her she went to this well. When she put the water in the kettle to boil she had the water on the fire for two hours and the water never got hot.
- In Ballyglasheen there is a well at the side of the road and it is called the Rock. It is said a woman washed a baby in it and the well went dry. A priest on hearing this came the following day and he kept praying over it all that day and for the(continues on next page)
