    At one of those fairs a quarrel arose between the Hickeys and the Hogans and it developed into a terrible faction fight. This was at the fair which was held on 16th June 1826. It was commonly known as the Gooseberry Fair as hawkers used to sell green gooseberries there.
    This was one of the worst faction fights that was ever held in this county because a gun was brought into use in it. The fight lasted for several hours, and finally a man named Butler an ex-soldier who fought for the Hickey side received a horrible gun shot wound and died from its effect soon afterwards. This ended the fight.
