There is a legend told about the chieftain who lived in Athassal Abbey.

    (continued from previous page)
all the vessels filled with wine and he thought he would always have enough of water because the river Suir was beside the Abbey.
When the chief was dying he sent one of his men to get wine but the wine was gone. Then he sent for water but the river had dried up during the night so the chieftain died of thirst.
