When Galloping O'Hogan was a boy, he was apprenticed to a blacksmith named Barry who lived in Ballycahill. One day a trooper came to get his horse shod. While he was waiting he went to an alehouse to get some refreshments. When the horse was shod, Hogan went for a gallop. The trooper returned to the forge.
