    There was a song composed long ago in which the townland of Burrane was mentioned. It is as follows:-
    Turn about and face the south,
    You can see the hills of Burrane.
    Beneath those hills there is a Church,
    Where sleeps the Colleen Bawn.
    Further west is Besborough,
    With its great and lordy trees.
    Where once there lived a gentlman,
    Named Robert Carey Reeves.
