There are many different kinds of beggars in this district. They make their tents on the side of the road, especially near crosses, and they go through the country every day begging.
There names are:- Mary Stapelton, Biddy Whelan, Tim Casey, Johny Molloy, John Carthy, Bully Nevins. Mary Stapelton has a lame step and is very often drunk, when she is drunk she would curse you if you did not give her something.
Biddy Whelan gets lodging from some old woman every night and she begs alone every day. She was once very rich and her father owned the post office in Kilmihil.
