A Story
“Within two miles of Kilmihil lies the townland of Castlepark.”
Within two miles of Kilmihil lies the town land of Castlepark.In the centre of this townland is the ruin of an old castle where there is supposed to be an enormous sum of gold buried by the Danes.
Not very long ago a venerable old gentleman named Michael Cahill living in Cahermurphy on the borders of Dubhloch dreamt three nights in succession and in his dream saw the enormous pile of gold.On the following day he went to an old companion named Padraig Lynch and told him of this dream and this wonderful sum of gold.Michael Cahill prepared and provided himself with a large bottle of whisky to encourage him to to fight the famous gunner who was supposed to be minding it.
They set to work with spade shovel and pick.The worked for the course of an hour or so.When they were about to abandon their search Michael Cahillstruck what he considered to be a flag or slab.Pat Lynch, being of a wild nature ,started to swear and call all the devils imaginable. They next heard a terrible bombardment of shots from a fort near by .Pat being terrified took to his heels .This aroused Cahill's anger who pursued him ,grabbed him by the neck and took him back to where(continues on next page)- Collector
