    which won the confined race could not compete in the open race.
    An Ennis crew eventually won the confined race and the Low Island crew took such a fancy to their boat that they asked her of the Ennis Crew and regardless of the consequences pulled her in the open race.
    In due time the three boats "The Black Thrasher", The "Witch" and the Ennis boat manned by the Low Island crew, were started.
    The "Witch" and the "Black Thrasher" fouled at the first buoy.
    Low Island now had a big lead, with the "Witch" and "Black Thrasher" in hot pursuit and in close company.
    At the second buoy they tangled again and another long delay ensured.
    Coney Island, now seeing pursuit of Low Island was useless, abandoned the race leaving second place to the "Witch".
