    District which was become vacant owing to the people emigrating to America. Many years ago a lot of boys and girls had to emigrate to America.
    The land here is very fertile and suitable for tillage, meadowing, and grazing. Woods are not numerous here but there are groves round Newhall, Ballybeg and Dromoland.
    The river Fergus a tributary of the Shannon is navigable as far as Clare Castle. It is noted for Salmon and Flat Fish. There are two lakes in the District namely Newhall and Ballybeg.
