John and Kate Higgins lived in Kilnamona in a little mud house about ninety years ago.They were very poor ,and could not afford to eat only potatoes and salt.One morning they a letter and a cheque from America for four pounds.John went to the fair and bought a pig ,he then killed her and cut her into small pieces. Next day John went to his work.Kate having no education ,carried out all the small pieces of meat to the garden, to find out if she would have a piece of meat for every head of cabbage ,but,having one head too much ,she came in for a knife to cut the head.
