  1. An droch-shaoghal
It is said that two of the strongest men in the quarter lived one in Leana and the other in Dromoher. They were trenching a two-acre field. The stronger of the two was very poor and as Indian meal was supplied free in Corofin this man went to apply for some. There were too many applications so he got none. His name was “an coinín mór”, he was so big. He managed to walk home a part of the way, but when he came to the place where John Hawes Kilnaboy now lives, he fell dead. The doctor was sent for, and he held an inquest and all that was got in his stomach was a little herb called “Rubal Chait”.
