“The houses they had long ago were alot different from the houses they have now. ...”
The houses they had long ago were a lot different from the houses they have now. The walls of the old houses used to be made of stone sometimes and more times of clay. They used to have roofs made of sticks as rafters and sods of grass over that. There used to be a hole in the roof as a chimney. They used to have a bed in the kitchen called the "leabaidh bhig". The man and women of the house used to sleep in that bed. There used to be one door leading in to the house and they used to have pieces of cotton as doors leading into the rooms. The door used to be closed outside with a chain. Inside there used to be one hole in the wall on each side of the door and a stick stuck in in them, so as the door could not be shoved in.- Collector
