“A man lived in new Quay once who used to stay out playing cards every night...”
A man lived in New Quay once who used to stay out playing cards every night until twelve o'clock. One Saturday night a woman came before him on the road. Every place he tried to leave his foot she was before him. At last he thought to catch her. He made a snatch at her but she caught him by the hair and dragged him over the wall six times as easily as if he was but a feather. When he went home he got sick and he was dead before a year.
Another man used to stay out late too and a carriage used to pass him filled with people who were laughing. He told hid mother and she asked Biddy Early about it. Biddy told his mother (and she a) not to let him out without holy water and when the carriage would come to make a ring around him with it and then when it was passing him she told him to put out his(continues on next page)- Collector
