“Near the mouth of the Inagh river stands the ruin of an old castle.”
(continued from previous page)Near the mouth of the Inagh river stands the ruin of an old castle. This castle played a prominent part in the history of Corcomroe in the heyday of the O'Connor chiefs. It is called Dough Castle or Caisleán na D?. Legend has that there is a pot of gold buried near the castle. It is supposed to be a distance of 7 steps from the castle in the direction of the sea.
A party of men from Moy some 20 yrs. ago excavated near the castle, but as one of their member got suddenly ill, the men did not continue working. The men's names are James Finucane (R.I.P.), John Ryan & his brother Michael (R.I.P) andPat Hayes (R.I.P).- Informant
