    one evening as he was out walking with his wife whose height was five feet, eight inches, he stepped back a few paces behind her and jumped clear over her head.

    Michael Comyns was a great poet and prose writer, who lived at Kilcorcoran, a few miles outside the town.
    One of his most famous poems is "Laoi Oísin" which gives a full account of Oisin in the "Land of Youth".

    There was an old protestant lady, named Mrs Armstrong who lived in the Spanish Point Road and died at the wonderful age of 117.
    She possessed all her faculties 'till the day she died, and she could knit, sew, and read without glasses.

    Another remarkable person was Daniel Buckley who was a Crimean veteran, and he fought at the battle of Sebastopol 1854
