  1. In olden times there were not as many athletes as there is at the present time.
    The athletes in days gone by were husky and daring.

    Tom Malone was a very good athlete and a native of Miltown Malbay.
    He won the championship of Ireland for running and after winning he immigrated to Australia in the year 1882.
    Still participating in short distance running and he won the championship of Australia. He was very good for jumping also.

    Anthony Hennessy was a native of Miltown Malbay and lived on the Chapel Rd.
    He was an expert in good dancing and very popular throughout Clare for it.
