  1. In this district many birds are to be seen flitting about. The principal are - Sparrows, robins, blackbirds, thrushes, Jack - daws, wood - pigeons, snipe, wild - ducks, water - hens, wrens, willie - wagtails, swallows, hawks, Peeweep, corncrake and cockoo.
    Sparrows build their nest in ivy in the eaves of thatched houses on in the spoutings of slated houses. They lay a small white egg covered with dark spots. They build their nests of hay and feathers. Usually the lay 4 or 5 eggs and hatch for a fortnight.
    Robbins build in holes in banks. They lay a little speckled egg. They make their nests of moss lined with hair. They lay from 4 to 6 eggs and hatch for a fortnight
    Blackbirds build in hedges. They lay a green egg covered with brown spots. They build their nests of grass and mud and lay about 4 eggs. They hatch for a fortnight
    The Jack - daws build in chimneys and make their nests of grass and sticks.
    The Peeweep lays her eggs on the top of a potato drill
