"At Anavackey there used to be held a fair long ago. Priests often used to come to such gatherings to collect money for churches or for their upkeep and it was the rule to give a donation, big or little. A priest attended this fair once but could get no donations and in disgust said:
"Ó leig as so mé - seo aonach a bhacaigh" and Aonach a Bhacaigh (beggar) it was called afterwards.- Informant
