    Customs
More than 20 years ago, the people of this district had several old customs. One custom was to give potatoes and butter and sweet milk to some poor person that hadn’t them. On Hallow Eve potatoes were boiled without the skins, then bruised up and the milk poured over them. A ring was put in the potatoes and they were eaten with butter. It was thought that the person who would get the ring would get married within a year’s time. Another custom was to give oatmeal, flour or wheaten meal to the poor people of the district, with which to make cakes for Hallow Eve.
