  1. There were sports in Collon a few times on 15th August forty years ago. The Sports started about one o'clock and ended at six.
They were held in a place known as the Bleech now. They were started by a police officer Supertendent Loyn.
There was ass-racing, sack-racing, wrestling, tug o'-war, wrestling, old-age pensioner's races, boys' races high jumps, and long jumps.
Each event was started by firing a pistol the prizes were given by Mrs Halpenny.
People came to these sports from Slane, Ardee, Dunleer, and other neighbouring towns.
There were sweet stalls and lemonade stalls stalls for strong drink, There were also stalls wtih apples and other fruit in them.
The stalls were made of carts with their sides taken off covered with a cloth.
The only people that had to pay were the competitors for the games.
