- There is only one forge in our district belonging to Mr Flanagan. His people were not smiths, but he served his time with another smith called Patrick Dillon, who had a forge for seventy five years, and when he gave up Mr Flanagan started in his place. Mr Dillon's forge was at a crossroad, and it was called Gargan's cross. Mr Flanagan's forge is down a lane way, it has a thatched roof, there is only one door on it. Patrick Dillon's forge had a wooden roof covered with felt, there was two half doors on it. There was one fireplace in it, Implements us by the smith are hammers, bellows, pincers, sledges, rasps, dogs, knifes, files. He makes farm implements such as ploughs spades, shovels pikes, axes.
