- There is supposed to be hidden treasure in the Moat. They say that the Danes placed it there. It was placed there in case a robber would come and take it. Many attempts have been made to unearth it. The people long ago tried to dig it up and they saw a black dog. The treasure consists of gold. There are animals or supernatural guardians supposed to safeguard this hidden treasure. People say that lights have been seen near the place.
How they made nails long ago. There was a man in Ardcath named Collins who made nails of every pattern to suit all purposes. He had a small anvil, a fire, and a bellows. He would get long rods of iron, redden them in the fire and beat them the required size. Then he had a flat piece of iron different sized holes in it. He would run the long piece of iron into one of these holes, cut it off beat down a head on the nail and the job was completed. At that time horses were(continues on next page)- Collector
