- My Granny has a churn. It is tall and wide at the bottom and it is narrower at the top.
The butter is made twice every week on Mondays and Thursdays. My Granny does the churning and if anyone comes in during the churning time they give help. They are supposed to be unlucky if they don't.
The churning is done by hand and the churn-dash is always moved upwards and downwards. It takes a half-an-hour to churn. When it is churned the butter is taken up with a wooden platter and put into a basin and rinsed with cold water and salt put in.
