Ever since that the house is said to be haunted, and the front gates going up to the house cannot be closed. Pass any time you will, night or day, the gates are always open. - In the year 1845 a great meeting was held at Tara for the Repeal of the Union.
Fr. MacEvoy P.P. of Kells, was the prime mover in the business. He was a personal friend of Dan OConnell's. It was he who celebrated Holy Mass on Tara Hill that day over the croppie's graves, on a table borrowed from people the name of Lynch, natives of Tara. Richard Lynch (born 1820) served the Mass. His daughter (Miss Maria Lynch now 80) lives in Farrell St.
The Kells Trade's Guild Band attended the meeting, and Mr. P. MacDonald's uncle played the triangle.
