- Long ago there were names put on fields and bushes and other places that are now hard to find the meaning of.
On our farm there are two hills called "Carlon's Hills".
These hills lie along the banks of the Moynalty river. Long ago these hills had a couple of dwelling houses on them and one family that lived there was named Carlons.
When a man named Mr. Farrell came to live in Moynalty he destroyed all those houses, but from that time onward those hills have been called "Carlon's Hills".
On Mr. Joseph Smyth's farm of
Shancarnon,
Moynalty,
Co. Meath,
there is a lone bush and there is another in Mr. Patrick Byrdie's field.
It is said that the fairies go from one bush to another dressed in red jackets and caps riding bouglins.
They live in under the bushes minding a crock of gold.
