An old custom in this country is stealing apples out of an orchard and it has not died out yet.
Two men named Mc Kenna and Patterson went one night to an orchard of a neighbour. They started off about twelve O'clock. They had two bags with them full when they imagined they saw a man on horse-back leaping across the hedge into the garden. They had nine or ten good sweet apples and two little bags full, when they came to the conclusion it was time for to go home. When they started to go home each of them had a bag on his back and when they were crossing the hedge something like a big black ram jumped up before them. Mc Kenna said to Patterson "We will throw down the bags of apples." Still the big black animal kept before them another field, jumping up on his hind legs. Then Mc Kenna spoke, "We will throw the sweet apples we have in our pockets also." Patterson was more of a hero. He said "We will not throw them out." Mc Kenna insisted on him to throw them out and they both agreed and the big black animal disappeared.
The two men went home each to his own place and went to bed. Patterson got out in the morning and went out to do some harvesting as the corn was ripe. Mc Kenna did not get up out of bed that day and the wife called in Doctor Ryan out of(continues on next page)- Collector
