And those comforts then were showered which Job's wife would yield of yore;
So the veil of strange delusion from my vision quick she tore -

So it was - the bird was dying, for within a corner lying,
Was a fierce tom-cat, whose presence I had failed to note before;
Thence a prisoner lately borne, his stong pinions sadly torn,
And of all his prowess shorn, he - Minerva's bird of yore -
Had escaped from Tom's embraces while yet struggling on the floor,
