- Long ago people would not get married in Lent, but many would get married before Shrove Tuesday.
An old custom long ago was that the bride and groom and the wedding party used to walk to the church for there were no motors cars long ago.
In olden times it was considered unlucky to get married in the months of May or August.(continues on next page)
