- (continued from previous page)week. Almost everyone in the house gives a helping hand at the churning. If any strangers come in during the churning they give a helping hand also. If not it is said that they bring the butter with(in) them. The churning takes a half an hour. The churning is done by hand. The dash is kept moving up and down. During the churning lukewarm water is poured on. When the churning is finished the churn is rocked to gather the butter.
