    years later and eighty years ago Catherine McCabe was still alive. Cavan still know her. She was then Mrs Somebody-or-other, and not prepared to reveal or maiden name or discuss her youth.
    She must have often been reminded of the unhappy past. However since day in day out the old people by the fireside, hawkers at the fair, and the kids on the street were forever singing a ballad that they called the lamentation of Hugh Reynolds. The song has survived to this very day, as has the popular prejudice against the girl who betrayed her Lochinvar.
