- The Boar's Head (Cionn Tuirc) or Castlepollard Parish of Rathgraff called Rathgarra Barony of Fore.
700 inhabitants. The most common name is Fagan. The houses outside the town and some yet in the town were thatched. The town got its name from the wild boars that were in the woods around Kinnturc.
There are several people over 70 living but none of them no Irish but they remember their parents speaking Irish. There are traces of old houses all around. Many of the young people emigrated to America- U.S.A some to Argentine.
Old Irish Tale.
When Diarmuid and Grainne fled from Fionn Mac Cool they came and rested at Kinn turc in the wood. Finn pursued them. Diarmuid was wounded by a wild boar and when Fionn found him he was very ill. He asked Fionn to bring him a drink of water. Fionn could not refuse being one of the Fianna but he did not like to do it. He went over to the well and brought the water(continues on next page)
