- An animal born around Whit is supposed to be unlucky. A green sod is cut and put on its head to break the charm. Unless this is done it is supposed that the animal will be wicked and will do harm to someone. The same belief is held about children born at Whit and the charm is broken in the same way.In Dunderry parish in Co. Meath such an animal or child is called a "Cingcíse" even though Whit Sunday is not called Cingcíse there.
