- Some 30 or 35 years ago the road at Derrymore beside the county boundary was celebrated place for tinkers camps sometimes 4 or 5 familys would camp there for a week or more their names were Joyces, Powers, Mac, Cans, Gavins, Doyles, they were very unwelcome visitors to the people of the locality. They used to break down and take away the fences for fire-wood and have them pestered begging for food. On a couple of occoasions my grand father pretinded he was sending for police to have them removed the way he used to manage was he send a lad out on horse back and pretind to the tinkers he was going for the peelers the lad would go down the road a bit too a neighbour(continues on next page)
