- There is an old grave yard in Cappiboggan a half a mile from Rattin castle which up to a few years was a strange sight. It was surrounded by water and over a hundred years ago the people had to get in coffins by a little boat. The old name of this grave yard is Templevee. It is situated on the top of a small hill.

- About one hundred years ago there were no schools to be had except what they called hedge school masters. One man lived in Clonfad, his name was John Hughes and he used to teach in the hedge schools. There was a hedge school in Heathstown it is now occupied by James Flynn and his wife. The teachers had very little to eat except what the children brought them.
