  1. Long ago they used to cut turf with a shovel and a slain and a spade.
    First they used to clean the bank with the spade and the shovel.
    Then they used to cut it with the slain, and spread it on the banks for a few days to dry and when it would be dry they used to put it in footans and then they would make it into reeks and when it would be dry they used to draw it home in a horse and cart and make a big reek in the stables.
