- Keena's Tannery.
Owned by a Jas. Keena. Situated between Levington and Cullion. Tannery near Blackhall - Owner a Mr. Tuite, who was at that time landlord of Springfield site now occupied by "Midland Bakery". Mary Street Tannery and Boot Factory.
A tannery is supposed to have worked in Mary Street. Site now occupied by Byrne's house and yard etc. Later is was converted into a boot factory. Leather was brought from Dowdalls. Boots were sold on streets, off stands on market and fair days. "Travellers" of who Bartry and Stanley were best known, supplied country shopkeepers and customers with boots. They travelled by means of horse and van. Amongst the shoe-makers are named - Sheer[?] and Crowley.- Collector
