Fairies churn. There is not much water coming from it now but in former times there was a great flow from it, as can be seen from the deep channel leading from it to the canal.
The water from this well is said to be a cure for toothache.
There is also a hole called the Wrestler's Hole in this park but I have given an account of this under the heading Local Heroes.
The park was used as a camping ground for the Dragoons in the time of the penal laws and there were troops camped there called the Hessians. The children of the time were in great dread of the Hessians.
The troops were always followed by a band of women. The people and children were always in dread of these people.
