- In olden times the men had to work from seven o'clock in the morning to seven in the evening, on three meals. There was no tea going in those days
For their breakfast they used to eat stirabout and mixed milk. Their only vessels being wooden noggins. For their dinner that had potatoes and cabbage or onions dipped in salt. Very little bacon was used. There was no fresh meat going. Sometime they might have salted herrings. For supper they had stirabout unless the oatmeal was scarce in the harvest.
