- Around this district there are about seven Forts, namely "Liosbreac Fort" "Carrickmoire Fort" "Brianstown Forts" "Lismore Fort" "Burnets Fort" "Ballykenny Fort" and "Toher's Fort".
The most important fort is Brianstown which is nearly fifteen feet high and in the centre you can see the remains of the tomb stones where people were buried long ago. Nearly all the forts around here are surrounded with a mould of earth.
Carrickmoire Fort is the next important fort because when the Danes came to Ireland their hiding place for shooting was Carrickmoire. At that time it was not guns it was pikes.
All forts were built at the time of the Danes. Most of the people in this district tell a good many stories connected with them but I do not know any(continues on next page)- Collector
