  1. Long ago there was an old hedge school in Moyne. The name of the teacher who taught there was Patrick Mc Guire of Moyne. The hedge school was in Patrick McGuire's garden. The subjects taught there were reading, writing and arithmetic. Irish was not allowed to be spoken. The pens which were used then by the children were made from quills.
