The Famine TimesOn making enquiries at home I got quite a lot of information about the famine of 1846.
My Grandfather knew a lot about it.
When the blight came the potato - crop failed and they rotted in the ground.
The crop failed for two years in succession
After the famine a disease spread all over the district and the people died in great numbers.
The corpses were so numerous that they were collected in carts and they often were buried in the same grave
Lots of families emigrated to America after the famine.I got this information from my mother who is forty eight years of age.
