downwards until the cream was churned.
The churn's of the present day are called end over-end churns. They are the shape of a small barrel and have a handle on the side of them. They are put on a frame when the churning is about to commence. The cream is put into them and the lid is screwed on tightly and then the handle is twisted round about until at last the butter appears on top. The butter is then taken out and washed thoroughly to take all the milk out of it. Then salt is put in it and it is washed again. Then it is fit for use.
