Worms in children. One, two, or three (according to age of child) drops of turpentine on a lump of sugar, when taken by the child cures this disease.
Whitloes. To bathe whitloes in water which has boiled potatoes is supposed to cure them completely.
Mumps. Salt dried and roasted, sprinkled on the stocking which one has been wearing, and tied around the throat is very good.
Heart-burn. A spoon full of bread-soda, when taken in a cup full of water is very effective.
Bleeding from the head. A cold stone or preferably a door key laid on the back of the neck, stops the bleeding immediately.
Head-ache. A bandage tied tightly around the head relieves a head-ache in a short time.
Breast-bone down. This operation is performed with the aid of a tumbler, a piece of candle, and a penny. The vacuum space left in the tumbler after the candle has used up some of the air, draws the fallen bone forward.
Itch. An ointment made with fresh butter and sulphur, when rubbed into the itch does away with this disease.
