- (continued from previous page)Long ago when the Danes came to Ireland they burned the monasteries and took anything that was valuable and buried it. One of them is said to have treasure in Aoldertan. Before he buried it an Irish chief went to fight him for it. Then the Dane gave it to his servant and told him to hide it and asked the servant if he were willing to guard it living or dead.
Then he took his sword and killed him and buried him with the treasure. The servant's spirit guards it ever since. A neighbour had a dream about the treasure. He dreamt that the treasure was buried beneath a large stone. Then the man who dreamt about the treasure asked a neighbour would he go with him to look for the treasure and the man said he would.
