There is a well in Kilmannon, Cleariestown, famous throughout the Parish.
At first it was situated in a rock in a field opposite the old graveyard, and was caused by the falling of the Bell of the church on this particular rock, and the mark of the Bell still remains to be seen in the rock.
It is said that at one time a woman from the neighbouring district washed her clothes in it one day and it afterwards moved three fields away with seven lighting candles around it. It now lies in Mr. Byrne's field of Kilmannon.
It is called St Mannon's well after the saint who lived there.- Collector
